my cloth story

Dear new sewing friend,

Hi there. My name is Maycie, author behind Cloth Story. I live on the Central Coast of California with my husband Ben, our two kids, and our two dogs Kodi + Pippi.

I started sewing 18 years ago as a teenager. I was that girl who would pass up a day at the mall with friends to stay home and sew instead. The very first sewing project I've ever made was a pair of pajama pants with french seams. I'm pretty sure I made everyone and their mama a pair of pajama pants that summer. I was completely hooked after that.

Fast forward to 2010, I bought a bunch of books and started patternmaking as a hobby. The whole drafting process just fascinated me, so I'd make a big pot of coffee and draft the night away. Later on that same year, I decided to level up my patternmaking skills and so I enrolled in one fashion design class, then two, then three...Before I knew it, I was taking classes full-time. Now, here we are...

Why do I love sewing so much? Well...it's fun. Plain and simple. Sewing helps me feel centered, mindful, and grateful. Sewing allows me to honor my "me" time to recharge and reflect. It's become a form of meditation for me. Happy sewist = happy human being. My family can attest to that :).

If you've stopped by this site you either love to sew or would like to learn more about it. My hope is that you'll walk away with practical tools that will help you become a better sewist, whether it's through a pattern, a blog post, a video tutorial, or a newsletter article. I'm excited that you're here!

Thanks for sewing with me...

Sincerely, Maycie
